Wheel Condition Monitoring

The WCM system from TrackIQ is a hybrid wheel condition monitor that uses load cells and accelerometers to produced detailed wheel condition data.

The use of a hybrid system allows the static and dynamic portions of the wheel loads to be separated and so the system can then detect and trend even small defects, regardless of variable axle loads.  This means that a defect can be monitored and trended throughout its life and that data can be used to formulate, test and optimise wheel maintenance processes.

The purpose of the system is therefore to provide meaningful data for train operators to enable them to optimise their wheel maintenance, as well as providing data for the track operator for the purposes of asset protection

The WCM system uses clamp on sensors to minimise the installation time and so keep traffic disruption low during the installation phase.  The system is also easy to maintain with a self diagnostic capability to enable faults to be easily and quickly located.

WCM is provided with a database and flexible reporting tools so that the system user is provided with the information that they need in a clear format to enable maintenance planning as well as analysis of defect progression and different maintenance strategies.
